Do your Italian food dreams come true? Mine totally did! Cause there’s new hidden gem in town. This spot has just opened its doors and i’m so happy to come across it spontaneously.

Cucina & Bar Donna

The cucina and bar is named after la padrona di casa, its daughter and sister, Donna: “She always creates a cozy atmosphere in our house and is for many of our friends the reason to come by. For a good conversation or just a listening ear, but especially because of her cooking skills.” – according to their website. Let’s find out if her spirit indeed reflects in the restaurant.

Food

Every time I see caponata on the menu I have to try it. Eggplant is one of my fav veg in the entire world and caponata must be also be one of my fav eggplant dishes. Donna’s caponata was delicious. It was full of flavor, rich, but balanced. I could eat two more plates of it.

I had the pizza Ortalana grilled veggies, mozarella, tomato sauce and fresh basil.

Ok, hands down, one-of-the-best-pizza’s I have had in a long time. Damn. That dough though (pun intended), so top notch.

The chef told me that they make their own dough fresh every single day. To be able to roll the dough that thin and keep a crunchy airy crust is a work of art. The flavors are incredible.

The cream in the cannoli’s was light and airy and the pistachios complimented the cannoli’s well. It was nice and light dessert, with a cup of tea/coffee. Nice way to end the dinner.

Service

The staff was very friendly, attentive, fast working and happy to explain the dishes and give recommendations.

Interior

The restaurant definitely has a cosy atmosphere that makes you feel at ease and relaxed. The interior is beautiful and stylish. I could see myself having a cup of coffee in the afternoon or having Friday evening drinks with friends there.

Final verdict

4.5/5 stars. Oh how Donna’s vibe shines through. It was a very pleasant experience. Cosy atmosphere that makes you feel like home and amazing food. A new fav spot in town for me.

The only unfortunate thing is that their opening hours are limited until 20:00h and they are only open from Monday-Friday. I understand that – as they are stationed in the WTC – serve business folks during the week, but it would have been lovely to have dinner/drinks until later or have a brunch in the weekends.
